A brief about the book talks about its hero (Omar bin Sayed) who was born in (Futa Tor) known today as (Senegal) in West Africa in 1770 AD and grew up there until 1807 AD when an army came to occupy his country, and he was taken as a slave to (Charleston) in North America. Omar grew up educated, memorized the Quran, knew Arabic, was knowledgeable about religions, and was well-off. He married before being enslaved, and left his wife pregnant... He did not know, after years of slavery, whether she was enslaved with him in the same campaign or in later campaigns by slave traders, or if she escaped slavery. He also did not know if she had given birth to their only son or not... But despite that, he remains hopeful to be freed from slavery and to reunite with them... But his hopes did not come true, and he died a slave in 1863 AD after surpassing ninety years of age; and before American President Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery by one year... A manuscript written on parchment strips is found, in which he narrates his life story shortly before he dies. These strips are authentic, kept by the American Library of Congress, which released them to the public recently... It is the story of a Muslim man living in slavery for nearly sixty years, during which he faced countless forms of injustice, insult, torture, and pain... It reveals the ugly face of racism and slavery. The author's name is Ayman Al-Atoum. Publishing house: Al-Ibda'a Al-Fikri.
