Product description

About the book "Island of the Sunset" is the first part of a trilogy of novels dedicated by writer Gilbert Sinoué to the history of Morocco before French-Spanish colonization, and it discusses the personality of Sultan Ismail and the challenges of his rule, during a time when internal unrest and European and Ottoman harassment of the country's sovereignty intensified. In this critical situation, the Sultan will try to achieve the impossible, as he succeeds in quelling tribal revolts and rebellions of his close associates, and in neutralizing the major European empires. The reader is immersed in a journey through multiple historical directions, through the perspective of Kasimir Giordano, this Frenchman whom the Sultan took as his personal doctor. Kasimir does not just narrate the era he experienced, but travels back and forth between different ages and characters: the Kingdom of Ouars, the Moroccan Mamluks (the Idrisids, the Almoravids, the Almohads, the Marinids, the Wattasid, the Saadian, the Alaouite), Dihya, Idris I, Zainab al-Nafzawiyya, Sultan Ismail, Louis XIV… and the aim is to explore a entity of a special nature in this "troubled East."
