This dressing is able to absorb large amounts of wound fluid or exudate, transforming it into a soft, one-piece gel that adheres tightly to the wound surface, maintains a moist environment in the wound, and thus helps to remove dead tissue from the wound (autolytic debridement). A moist wound environment and control of wound bacteria aid the body in the healing process and help reduce the risk of wound infection. Ionic silver in the dressing destroys pathogenic microorganisms, including wound bacteria, yeast, and mold. The bandage prevents biofilm formation. The dressing also provides an antibacterial barrier that protects the wound.
