Specifications of the respiratory device filter: The HME respiratory device filter is used in cases where the user breathes through the trachea directly. Breathing through an external tube into the trachea bypasses the natural warming, humidifying, and filtering of air through the nose and mouth. The HME filter humidifies, warms, and filters the air from microbes before it enters the respiratory system. The filter should be replaced every 7 days for all users. The filter should be replaced every 48 hours for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
