Zanzalakh is a deciduous tree that reaches a height of 6 to 17 meters, with branches spreading up to 12 meters. Azdrecht is a foreign word composed of two parts: Azad, meaning "beautiful," and Dracht, meaning "tree," so it is the beautiful tree. Origin of Zanzalakh is Southwest Asia and Western China. The tree has a wide, open crown. It often has multiple branches. The leaves are green, lush, feathery compound, alternately arranged, with oval leaflets with serrated edges. The flowers are purple, violet, or yellowish-white, appearing in spring in open cluster inflorescences up to 25 cm long. The size of one flower is 1.5 cm. The tree begins flowering at three or four years old. The fruit is a round, attractive yellow plum, about 1 cm in diameter. In the past, people used Zanzalakh seeds to make rosary beads. It is recommended to prune the plant periodically. Zanzalakh can be propagated from seeds, and under favorable conditions, it can regenerate automatically from seeds. It also multiplies through root cuttings. In areas with rainfall of 600 to 1000 mm annually, Zanzalakh grows well. It responds to high relative humidity and regular watering. Zanzalakh can tolerate moderate salinity. Young trees may not tolerate frost. The plant can be found in gardens, and it is advised to plant the tree in a protected location with a suitable small climate, such as parks or large gardens, where it can be protected from wind damage. Zanzalakh trees are beautiful and suitable for distinctive arrangements or small groups.
