Spreader is a hand endodontic instrument used during the obturation stage of root canal treatment, particularly when using Gutta-Percha. Its main function is to apply lateral pressure to the Gutta-Percha, creating space for accessory Gutta-Percha cones and helping achieve a dense and well-adapted root canal filling.
Paper Points.
How to Use in Detail:
Prepare the canal: After completing canal cleaning and shaping, irrigate the canal and dry it using Paper Points.
Select the master cone: Select the appropriate Master Gutta-Percha Cone and confirm that it reaches the desired working length.
Select the spreader: Choose an appropriate Spreader that can approach the working length without forcing the instrument or applying excessive pressure.
Place the master cone: Place the Master Gutta-Percha Cone into the canal with the appropriate sealer according to the obturation technique being used.
Insert the spreader: Gently insert the Spreader alongside the master cone and apply controlled pressure toward the Gutta-Percha to create lateral space.
Apply lateral pressure: Apply light and controlled lateral pressure without forcing the spreader deeply or using excessive force.
Insert the accessory cone: Remove the spreader and place an Accessory Gutta-Percha Cone into the space created.
Repeat the process: Continue alternating between inserting the spreader and placing accessory cones until the canal is adequately filled.
Check the obturation: Ensure that the Gutta-Percha is adequately adapted and that there are no obvious voids.
Remove excess material: After completing the obturation, remove excess Gutta-Percha from the orifice area and clean the pulp chamber.
Final assessment: A radiograph may be taken to assess the length and density of the root canal filling and check for obvious voids or unwanted extension.
How does the dentist benefit from it?
The Spreader allows the dentist to perform lateral compaction of Gutta-Percha and create space for accessory cones, helping achieve a dense obturation that is well adapted to the root canal walls.
