Gutta-Percha is a primary material used to obturate root canals after cleaning and shaping during endodontic treatment. It is available in different cone sizes and is used together with a sealer to fill and seal the canal, minimize voids, and help prevent fluid and bacterial penetration after canal preparation.
Paper Points.
Final Preparation Size.
Canal Orifice.
How to Use in Detail:
Prepare the canal: After completing cleaning and shaping, irrigate the canal and dry it using Paper Points.
Select the master cone: Select the appropriate Master Gutta-Percha Cone according to the canal size and final preparation size.
Try the master cone: Insert the Gutta-Percha Cone into the canal and confirm that it reaches the desired working length with appropriate apical fit.
Prepare the sealer: Prepare the appropriate Root Canal Sealer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Apply the sealer: Apply an appropriate amount of sealer inside the canal or to the master cone according to the selected obturation technique.
Insert the Gutta-Percha: Place the Master Cone into the canal up to the established working length.
Use the spreader: During lateral compaction, insert the Spreader alongside the master cone to apply lateral pressure and create additional space.
Place accessory cones: Remove the spreader and place Accessory Gutta-Percha Cones into the space created.
Repeat the process: Continue lateral compaction and accessory cone placement until the canal is adequately filled.
Remove excess material: Once obturation is complete, cut and remove excess Gutta-Percha at the canal orifice level.
Clean the pulp chamber: Remove excess sealer and Gutta-Percha from the pulp chamber and prepare the tooth for the final restoration.
Final assessment: A radiograph may be taken to assess the length and density of the root canal filling and check for obvious voids or unwanted extension.
How does the dentist benefit from it?
Gutta-Percha allows the dentist to obturate the root canal after cleaning and shaping. It provides a material that can be compacted and adapted to the canal shape. When used with an appropriate sealer and obturation technique, it helps achieve a well-filled canal and minimize voids.
