Spreader

A Spreader is a precise dental instrument used to move, distribute, and compact materials within the working area. It is commonly used during certain endodontic procedures to help distribute and compact materials inside the root canal. Its design allows the dentist to reach narrow and precise areas within the canal.

Spreader:

Lateral Condensation.

Gutta-Percha:

Gutta-Percha.

How to Use in Detail:

Select the appropriate Spreader:

The dentist selects the appropriate spreader according to the size and shape of the root canal and the technique being used.

Prepare the root canal:

After cleaning and shaping the root canal, the dentist ensures that the canal is properly prepared for the obturation material and the selected technique.

Place the obturation material:

Gutta-Percha is placed inside the root canal according to the selected obturation technique.

Insert the Spreader:

The dentist gently and carefully inserts the spreader into the canal to the appropriate working depth, avoiding excessive force.

Compact the material:

The spreader is used to apply lateral pressure to the Gutta-Percha, helping compact the material and create space for additional cones when using the lateral condensation technique.

Add Gutta-Percha:

After removing the spreader, an accessory cone can be placed into the created space. The process can be repeated as needed.

Repeat the compaction process:

The compaction and addition of accessory cones are continued until the canal is adequately filled and the Gutta-Percha is properly compacted.

Check the obturation:

Once completed, the dentist checks that the obturation material is appropriately distributed and compacted within the canal before proceeding with the final restoration.

Cleaning and sterilization:

After use, the spreader should be cleaned and sterilized according to the manufacturer’s instructions and the appropriate infection-control protocol.

How does the dentist benefit from it?

A spreader gives the dentist better control when compacting Gutta-Percha inside the root canal, particularly when using lateral condensation techniques. It also helps create space for accessory cones and achieve better distribution and compaction of the obturation material.
