An oblong photographic folio of the Australian continent, issued in New York by Crescent Books from the first English edition of Colour Library Books Ltd. of Guildford, Surrey. Joe Ryan opens the volume with an essay on the discovery of the continent: the southern land Ptolemy reasoned into existence, the Dutch navigators riding the Roaring Forties, Jan Carstens describing the Gulf of Carpentaria in 1623, the First Fleet landing at Botany Bay in January 1788, and Edward John Eyre's crossing of the Nullarbor Plain.

The plates that follow run the width of the continent — the red domes of Kata Tjuta glowing at dusk, a timber trestle bridge standing over the surf of the southern coast, saltbush and mulga along a red dirt track in the interior, and a hang-glider riding the escarpment above Stanwell Park. Production was handsome for its date: filmsetting by Acesetters Ltd. of Richmond, Surrey, colour separations by Llovet, S.A. of Barcelona, and printing and binding in Barcelona by Rieusset and Eurobinder.
