Wound Care & Casting Workshop
A two-day practical workshop designed to build essential clinical skills in wound management and orthopedic immobilization. Through focused scientific sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, participants will develop a structured approach to assessing and managing common wounds and orthopedic injuries encountered in clinical practice.
Day 1 — Wound Care
Date: 3rd September
Time: 1:00–5:00 PM
Instructors:
Dr. Eihab Munshi
Dr. Noor Basendowah
This session provides a practical approach to wound assessment and management, from initial evaluation to appropriate dressing selection and application.
Participants will explore wound-care fundamentals, including systematic wound assessment, traumatic and postoperative wounds, superficial versus deep wounds, wound cleansing and irrigation, modern dressing selection, dressing application and fixation, and basic bandaging techniques.
The session will also highlight infection, complications, and important red flags, with a brief introduction to advanced wound-management strategies such as Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT).
Hands-on activities will allow participants to translate these principles into practical clinical skills and develop confidence in selecting and applying appropriate wound-care techniques.
Day 2 — Casting & Splinting
Date: 4th September
Time: 3:00–7:00 PM
Instructors:
Dr. Faiz Felemban
Dr. Amr Mirza
The second day focuses on the fundamental principles and practical skills of fracture immobilization, splinting, and casting.
Participants will learn how to choose between splinting and casting, identify commonly used casting materials, and perform a thorough neurovascular assessment before and after immobilization.
Through supervised hands-on practice, participants will learn the correct application of:
- Short-arm back slab
- Long-arm back slab
- Below-knee back slab
- Above-knee back slab
The session will also cover common casting mistakes, complications, cast-care instructions, and safe casting techniques, with an emphasis on proper positioning, molding, padding, and patient safety.
What Makes It Practical?
Rather than focusing on theory alone, both days are structured around clinical application and hands-on learning, allowing participants to practice essential techniques in simulated clinical scenarios under instructor guidance.
Two days. Two essential clinical skills.
