Figurative Oil Painting

I created this painting from life during a live painting session back in 2014, while I was living in San Francisco, California, studying Fine Art at the esteemed Academy of Art University. The painting took me over 6 continuous hours due to the nature of drawing from life. This painting is considered a significant milestone in my path as an artist. Getting, almost, human proportion accurately became a foundation from which I could, later, confidently visualize more complex concepts.

With a continuous practice of figurative drawing and painting, later, for more than 10 years, along with my experience in concept art and background in Graphic “Design”, this foundation led me to come up with this new approach in visualizing “Women in Black” series.

What I find really interesting is the extreme contrast between this figure painting, which represents my living time in California, and the super conservative depth that "Women in Black" concept represents, which reflects my living experience in Saudi Arabia. This contrast reflects a core aspect of my identity as an artist; an ongoing exploration of dualities and polarities.
